Experiential Learning

The simulated learning environment is intended to mirror the real world. The learning environment is a simulation from the first person perspective. Students assume the role of a particular professional in the simulation and make recommendations to their virtual clients, just as they would to real clients.

Because, learning is an active process, a simulated learning environment provides students with a safe harbor within which they can experiment with various approaches to solve a given case. They are also able to learn why some solutions work better than others do. Simulations allow students to safely practice new skills without fear of permanent consequences to themselves, or their organizations.

Recognizing that different people learn in different ways, ShirWin provides adults with a variety of learning tools to help increase their understanding of the course material. Text-based information is restrictive. Multimedia programming is used to augment and expand upon the original text material. ShirWin's multimedia and computerization skills allow us to offer a wide range of learning tools designed to improve the quality of adult education, including:

    1. Problem- based video cases in simulations to test core concepts.
    2. "What if" scenarios to expand the analytical range of each video case.
    3. Expert solutions for video(for comparative purposes and self-assessment).
    4. Interactive discussions with video clients to refine interpersonal skills.
    5. Audio expert stories from industry leaders to explain successes and failures.
    6. On-line testing through multiple-choice questions.
    7. On-line testing through problem solving questions.
    8. Course website, discussion boards, chat rooms for student interaction.
    9. Tracking systems to monitor student performance.
