ShirWin Knowledge & Learning Systems Inc. is located in the Advanced Technology Centre in Edmonton's Research Park (part of ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EDMONTON). ShirWin Inc.'s team consists of diverse talents in the areas of computer programming, Internet development, 3D graphics, instructional design, technical writing and project management. With this diverse range of knowledge and skills the ShirWin Inc. staff are able to create custom solutions to meet clients' specialized educational requirements. To improve the quality of a teaching environment, educational research stresses that educators need to accommodate a wide range of learning styles. Teaching systems must recognize and make provisions for, each individual's preferred learning style. ShirWin is committed to the belief that "people of all ages can learn virtually anything if allowed to do it through their own unique style."

Correspondence courses are becoming an increasingly important teaching system for adult education. Unfortunately, most correspondence courses to date have met with limited success, primarily because they continue to educate students using a single learning style; the student's ability to read. Advances in technology give ShirWin the ability to expand the range of learning styles that can be delivered through correspondence courses. "Not to make full use of instant electronic communications in education would be like our ancestors failing to use the alphabet, or refusing to rub two sticks together to start a fire." Expanding the range of learning styles enables ShirWin to dramatically improve the success of correspondence courses as a modern teaching system.
